Work Life Balance

One of the main struggles work at home moms have  is finding work life balance between their business and their family.

Normally the reason a mom starts a home based business is to have more time with her kids, but sometimes a home based business can throw off your work life balance and actually take time away from your family. It's a catch 22 in the beginning. As a mother, your schedule is already full. So how do you fit in building a million dollar business in the cracks of your day?

Luckily, mothers are talented, and have some innate superpower that others just don't have. It happens to them once they physically give birth. So on top of breast feeding, planning and making meals, shopping, making healthy school lunches, keeping the house tidy, balancing the finances, driving kids to sporting events, unpacking backpacks, organizing summer camps, keeping up with the garden, planning vacations, doing laundry, keeping herself looking good, and fitting in time for herself… mothers will actually consider building a multi-million dollar business from home, not for her own sake, but for the good of her family…. (and also being able to hire some help no doubt)

Mothers are amazing.

So if you are a busy mom trying to build a home based business, here are some tips to help you balance your life while you build your empire…

Make two lists the night before: one for the things you need to do for your business and one the things you need to do for your home or family. When you wake up, review the lists so they are clear in your mind. If you know exactly what needs doing, it is easier to focus on results. Once your kids are off to school, just 'get 'er done'. Do the 3 most important things first, and give yourself a break if you don't get the whole list finished. Building a business is a growing process. Do a little each day and be nice to yourself. You truly are an incredible being.

It's hard for kids to distinguish work from pleasure when you are in their sight…especially when they are little. The ultimate scenario involves working while they are not around or are asleep, but that may not always be possible. Make sure you have a clearly defined working space to call your office. Let the kids know that when you are 'at work' they need to go to daddy or another adult (who is home) for help. Never ignore you kids or use the TV as a baby sitter. Ultimately, your kids are the most important thing in your life, and they are humans with feelings. They grow up so quickly and the memories you make with them when they are young will stick with you both forever. Make sure they know that they are valuable to you and that you are building your business in order to have more time with them in the long run.

Try to fully BE with your kids when you are with them, and focus fully on business when you are working. If you try to overlap them, both will suffer.

When you work from home, and especially when a family is involved, having a schedule so imperative. Just like at a 'regular' job, you need to schedule your work time, shopping time, cleaning day, and self time. Figure out everything you need to do in a week and plan accordingly. The time you spend making a weekly schedule will actually give you more time in the end because you won't be running around like a chicken with your head cut off trying to fit in all the things you forgot to do.

In order to grow as a leader in business, as well as be the best mom you can be, you need to work on yourself. Read  personal development  or inspirational books every day. I like to do it before I go to bed so that the information sinks in while I sleep, but I know others who get up early to start their day in a motivated state of mind.

Staying healthy keeps your mind sharp and your body feeling good. Excercising is a great way to start a feel-good kind of day where you will be productive.

Doing a little every day consistantly is more powerful than trying to do it all at once. Keep the little things in mind because they do matter. You can create any life you want but not all at once… especially if you are in network marketing. The small things you do daily may not seem like much, but in the long run, they will form a very solid foundation for your business. So trust that you are building something of great importance and just keep going. And when you do a little every day, you have a healthier work life balance with your family, especially knowing that something big is brewing.

Always make sure you love what you are doing. When you are enjoying yourself, you shine. When people see you having fun, they will want to join you. Nobody wants more work, but everyone wants to have fun. Offer other busy moms an outlet that will be both socially and financially rewarding, and business and friendships will thrive.
